Josephina
D. Joachim is a Tax expert by profession as she studied the
Science of Taxation Management.
She is the treasurer of SHEEO NGO using her taxation and accountancy
skills to insure the funds and asset of the organization are fully used for meeting
the needs of the beneficiaries and the organization legal compliances on
tax affairs are met in provisions with the Governmental financial regulations
on non-governmental organizations in Tanzania.
Josephina is from a livestock keeping community and her heart was really
touched with the drop out of schools for many children due to the fact that
most of families in her community prefer to give children duties to look after
livestock instead of going to school.
Another sad practice which made her unhappy during her grow up was Female
Genital Mutilation which also made girls to suffer and ending up dropping out
of school.
Being from a poor family and raised in a small rural village, the situation of
witnessing children leaving the school, embrace livestock keeping and
female genital mutilation gave her emotions which she turned into courage to study
hard and, after finishing her advanced secondary school studies during the break to wait
for joining the university, Josephina started an initiative with some survivors of female genital mutilation she studied with to raise awareness to
parents/families attending the Anglican church of Tanzania Rorya Diocese at their parish to give much
attention and importance to the education of their children and stop using them
in livestock keeping, agriculture and practicing female genital mutilation.
In January 2017 after her university studies, she got employed by the Anglican
Church of Tanzania - Diocese of Mara and was posted at Bunda Girls
Secondary School to serve as an Accountant of the School and helping the
school to be in compliance with the tax authority.
As this school educates vulnerable girls from livestock keepers’ communities and those practicing Female Genital Mutilation, Josephina continued to work with these
girls and insure their confidence is built and their dreams are met.
She worked
with this school until September 2021 as her contract ended and she did not
want to renew it so that she may get enough time to serve adolescents girls and
young women at SHEEO NGO.
When SHEEO
NGO (formerly known as Awakening Horn for Inclusive Rural Development - AHIRD) started in April, 2020, she felt really happy to join and is now working with all
her heart in order to help vulnerable girls to get education and empower those who did
not succeed to complete their formal education due to different challenges to
change their lives.
“I am
moving by the spirit of making SHEEO NGO a strong organization to be always
trusted and where donors and all compassionate people will be proud to support.
Financial accountability and transparency and legal compliance remain my
greatest preoccupations during my term in office as SHEEO NGO treasurer and this
is for insuring our beneficiaries are at the centre of the management of the resources we
mobilize for them. This is the way for me to build a strong SHEEO NGO which all shall be proud of.”
Quote from Josephina when she
addressed her remarks during the quarter one of 2024 projects implementation
review meeting.
