About Us
Empowering rural adolescent girls to lead, choose, and thrive.
A girl-centered and community-driven organization
SHEEO is a girl-centered, nonpartisan, nonprofit, and non-governmental organization striving to help rural adolescent girls thrive and become autonomous.
As a girl-centered and community-driven initiative, SHEEO restores hope and carries the voices of marginalized and underrepresented adolescent girls in rural Tanzania by empowering and supporting them through education, life and practical skills development, and economic opportunities that build self-reliance, resilience, and capacity to transform their communities.
SHEEO was founded by five young people from poor rural families who survived different acts of human rights violations while growing up. After their studies, they came together to initiate an organization dedicated to the integral well-being of impoverished rural adolescent girls in Tanzania.
The organization was founded on April 11, 2020 and was first called Awakening Horn for Inclusive Rural Development—AHIRD. On February 13, 2024, members decided to change the organization name to Solidarity for Her Education and Empowerment Organization—SHEEO so that its vision, mission, and objectives focus solely on rural adolescent girls.
The new registration certificate number is 00NGO/R/6939, enacted on June 7, 2024 by the NGOs Registrar of the United Republic of Tanzania.
